Updated: Jul 21, 2022

“Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.”— Hermann Hesse

Most of us are aware of the importance of self-care in our lives. Now, more than ever, we are constantly bombarded with enough information, news, and life changes that can exhaust us all. Therefore, it is a must take time to unplug, recharge and care for ourselves. We're all better people when we take care of ourselves.

So, I have created a simple list of self-care activities that help me tons, and that I hope helps you today:

  • Slowly inhale, hold, and slowly exhale

  • Brush your teeth and floss

  • Drink a glass of water now

  • Take a yoga class or stretch

  • Lay down and read a book

  • Write down a few things your grateful for

  • Call or text someone who uplifts you

  • Sing to your favorite song

  • Go on airplane mode and doodle

  • Buy someone else's coffee, tea or juice

  • Make your bed and greet the day

  • Cook your favorite healthy food

  • Plan a low-key trip to a local place you've never been

  • Let yourself sleep in without judging yourself

  • Do 10 jumping jacks, sit-ups and push-ups

  • Start your gratitude journal digitally or physically

  • Remind yourself there is only one you

  • Hug someone you love

  • Bring someone a flower or ice cream or hot chocolate

  • Go out for a treat (points if it's with someone you love)

  • Look at a flower and smell it if it's fragrant (and you're not allergic)

  • Take a bath or a shower with music on

  • Let some air into you room, or home and look outside

  • Tidy up one area of your room, or home

  • Think about one thing that's bothering you - find out why, and let it go

  • Listen for birds chirping

  • Wind down with a beer or a glass of wine

  • Watch one episode of a show that makes you laugh

  • Meditate for 10 minutes

  • Give a compliment to someone before the day ends

  • Zone out and immerse yourself in the moment

  • Visualize one thing that you would really want to great detail

  • Set an intention to get a good night's rest

  • Go to sleep before 12am

All in all, take care and remember that self-care is doing what best for you so you can do your best in the world. And we need your best - it is a must.
